"In my field of travel writing, the description 'life-changing' is bandied about loosely, but I could not be more sincere when I say this trip (February 2007 Nagaur Relief Ride) changed my life." (read more)

Dear Friends-

The Great Bikaner Relief Ride is one of our most magical Relief Ride itineraries, giving us numerous opportunities for open plain riding through and over vast dunes, and on sandy desert tracks, great for long slow paced canters, through a region where a special tribe by the name of the Bishnois have been living for centuries.

The exact translation of this tribes name means the tribe of 29 principles, given to them by Guru Jambeshwar 540 years ago.

These principles are all based on the prophecy that harming the environment meant harming oneself. These laws focus both on the preservation of bio-diversity, as well as a healthy eco-friendly social life for their community.

One of the palpable experiences on this particular ride is the apparent relationship that the Bishnoi tribe has with the wildlife that surrounds them. They are animal lovers and have had a strict no hunting policy for centuries.

This lifestyle has given the wild life the opportunity to freely roam and mingle with the desert population at large. We have never had so many Gazelles, desert foxes, Blue Bulls wander so closely around us before on any of our other rides.

This region, remotely located deeper into The Thar Desert than any of our other Relief Rides, has little to no healthcare services and resources. All of our programs have been very effective and appreciated by local populations.

We hope you will join us on this breathtaking Relief Ride.

November 2014 Bikaner Relief Ride
2-15 February 2014

Sincerely,

Alexander Souri
