Dear Friends:

The first half of this year has proven to be an exciting and busy time for us at Relief Riders International.

We were able to successfully complete both of our 2011 Rajasthan Relief Rides, our inaugural June 2011 Cappadocia Relief Ride and an extremely successful fundraiser in Vancouver organized by Alumni riders Peg Steley and Barbara Sauder.

The event in Vancouver was magical and meaningful, as a group of wonderful people got together and chose to further our work.

They gave us the opportunity to install two playgrounds on our recent ride in Turkey, provide us with funds for our long yearned for Mobile Dental chair for use in India, and gave us a head start for the re-launch of our Give the Gift of Sight program on our 2012 Rajasthan Relief Rides.

How this year's Relief Riders made a difference on our 2011 Rajasthan Relief Rides:

This year RRI teamed up with UNICEF for the first time to implement UNICEF's Global Hand washing program in which rider's accompanied by Dr. Arora taught children hand washing and basic hygiene practices. As simple as it sounds, this program has already had a big impact on children in India. Washing is the most cost effective way to reduce cases of Diarrhea, the second leading cause of death in children in India.

This past winter's Relief Rides had us ride through the villages of Nimaaj and Kherwa, where riders helped set up and manage two dental camps, and treat a total of 283 individuals with dental ailments. Riders were able to help with the long term dental health of these rural communities by assisting RRI's dentists in a study surveying dental health to inform future program development.

This year was especially challenging for below poverty level families to buy or own a goat as a sudden change in global weather patterns caused an abundance of vegetation in the usually arid Thar Desert region of Rajasthan. Good news if you already own a goat and bad news if you don't as the opportunity to graze abundantly has increased the price of goats. This made our gifts even more meaningful this year, our riders were able to deliver close to 70 goats, and the impact of the generosity of those in Vancouver was felt.

In 2012 riders have the opportunity to make an even bigger impact as we add our powerful Gift of Sight program onto our already comprehensive schedule of relief programs.
