LUNI NEW YEAR'S RELIEF RIDE
DECEMBER 28TH, 2010 THROUGH JANUARY 12TH 2011
Day 1: December 28th
Arrive in Delhi and spend the night at a beautiful Boutique Hotel, or similar.
Day 2: December 29th
Relax the morning away at your leisure in and around your hotel.
Enjoy Delhi’s beautiful sights and sounds with an afternoon tour of the city. In the evening we will depart for the Thar Desert on the overnight train to Jodhpur.
Day 3: December 30th
Sunrise arrival in the” Blue City” of Jodhpur. The city, once the capital of the former princely state of Marwar and an important stop on the ancient Silk Road boasts lively color and culture. We will transfer via coach to Fort Chanwa Luni for an introductory breakfast to RRI and its 15 day program. Built in 1894 this Majestic Fort will serve as our initial base camp and departure point for the Relief Ride. Stroll around touring the fort, after light refreshments in the afternoon we’ll gather around to meet the horses for a casual afternoon ride.
Day 4: December 31st
The early part of the morning will be spent preparing for the relief mission by organizing 15 days worth of relief supplies for the journey. Shortly before our departure from Luni Fort we will partake in a Puja (Journey Blessing) by the fort’s resident Hindu priest. Our morning ride will take us to SANWALTA KHURD.
The first leg of the trip will take us through several small beautiful villages in the Mewar region. Lunch will be taken under the shade of trees while en route to our campsite. The evening will be spent celebrating the New Year at our beautiful Desert Encampment. We will overnight at our tented encampment on the outskirts of SANWALTA KHURD.
Day 5: HAPPY NEW YEAR! January 1st 2011
Morning ride to the local school in Sanwalta Khurd to treat children with de-worming medicine and deliver much needed educational supplies to the school. We will return to the village in the afternoon to distribute livestock to its villagers who qualified for our Give a Goat program. We will overnight at our tented encampment on the outskirts of SANWALTA KHURD.
Day 6: January 2nd
We will depart on a full day’s ride from Sanwalta Khurd to Hemawas. The terrain here is soft and sandy and good for easy riding. As we approach Hemawas there will likely be Blue Bulls, Black bucks and Chinkara’s (a type of Gazelle only found in North India) grazing in this area. Our campsite is set under the shade of trees with an incredible panoramic view of the Aravelli mountain range. We will overnight at our tented encampment on the outskirts of HEMAWAS
Day 7: January 3rd
We will de-worm and distribute educational supplies to children at the local school in Hemawas. Afternoon will be spent at your leisure in and around our camp. We will overnight at our tented encampment on the outskirts of HEMAWAS
Day 8: January 4th
The ride from Hemawas to Baanta will give you a range of varied landscapes crossing paths with the semi nomadic Rebari tribes herding there goats and camels in search of grazing. We will travel through a beautiful semi shrub desert with dunes seeking refuge under a cluster of desert trees to have lunch and rest. We will overnight at our tented encampment on the outskirts of BAANTA.
Day 9: January 5th
Our ride into Baanta will take us to the local school were we will treat children with de-worming medicine and distribute educational materials. We will return to the village in the afternoon to distribute goats to the villagers. We will overnight at our tented encampment on the outskirts of BAANTA.
Day 10: January 6th
We will ride from Baanta to Nippal. Along the way we may see the khejri trees commonly found in this district. The khejri tree’s leaves provide fodder for livestock, and give gum, both of which have commercial value. The Khejri tree has been traditionally protected by the Bishnois of Rajasthan, for its value in checking soil erosion. We will overnight at our tented encampment on the outskirts of NIPPAL.
Day 11: January 7th
We will perform our Pediatric and educational program at the local school in Nippal.
Prepare yourself for an afternoon of unforgettable fun as you and your fellow riders compete with each other in our exciting Ball and Bucket races or Musical Horse Games! This dynamic afternoon is highly attended by the local community and provides a wonderful opportunity to leisurely interact with them. We will overnight at our tented encampment on the outskirts of NIPPAL.
Day 12: January 8th
We will conduct our first dental camp, offering minor surgeries and treatments to villagers of Nippal. The camp will open its doors at 10.00 am and will close by 4.00 or until the last patients have been treated. We will overnight at our tented encampment on the outskirts of NIPPAL.
Day 13: January 9th
We will depart Nippal for Narlai. This leg of the ride is stunning as it takes us through breathtaking landscape of large rock outcroppings and dunes shouldering the Aravelli hills. We will overnight in Narlai at Rawla Narlai, a remarkable fort that sits at the bottom of a gigantic [350 ft high] single rock of granite dotted with caves and temples. It is crowned by a statue of a white elephant, proud guardian to the open desert on one side and the crumbling Aravelli hills on the other.
Day 14: January 10th
Enjoy a leisurely morning at Rawla Narlai. After a delicious breakfast we will travel via coach to the sacred village of Pushkar. The village is the home of the only Brahma Temple in India as well as hosting the famed Pushkar Camel Fair. Overnight Pushkar.
Day 15: January 11th
Early morning departure from Pushkar to Jaipur. Check into Narain Niwas Haveli. Afternoon at your leisure by the pool.
Day 16: January 12th
Check out by 12.00. Post lunch departure by coach to Delhi/transfer to airports for return flights.
